After several years of teaching at the Elementary level, I feel strongly rooted in my teaching assignment. I believe that all students can learn and that a visual arts program is the key to a balanced education. As an art teacher, I hope to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and discover what truly inspires them. My teaching style is warm, gentle, and soft which provides a safe environment for exploration. My classroom management is consistent and clear. I use visual and auditory cues to help students understand the lesson expectations, and I provide guided freedom to explore various types of art, skills, and techniques. The most effective impact on my students’ learning are my layered lessons with various activities from reflective journaling, reading art literature in class, art history, and, of course, the art project itself. Through visual arts I promote students’ self-esteem, critical thinking skills, self-discipline, and cross-cultural understanding.
In light of my success, I will continue to stay current in my teaching practice, learning about new art materials and artists, technology, and curricula design. There is nothing more pleasing to me than creating a challenging curriculum which facilitates all students in discovering and developing their artistic and creative skills.
